Food and Film

May 27 – October 1, 2017

Food and Film presents a selection of short films in which food is appropriated as a socio-political and cultural metaphor for identity in Canadian experimental, animated and documentary film. Co-curated by Jaclyn Meloche and Vincent Georgie and in partnership with the Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF), each film speaks to a different relationship between food and the body. In films, such as Patriotism I (1964), Hold the Ketchup (1977), Soup of the Day (2013) and Cafeteria (2015), the spirit of cinematic activism chronicles the ways in which food becomes a metaphor for the body, Canadian identity and survival.

To complement the exhibition, the AGW and WIFF are partnering to present two evenings of double features to be screened at the Art Gallery of Windsor. Films will include Tampopo (1985), Like Water for Chocolate (1992) and Big Night (1996).

Co-curated by Jaclyn Meloche and Vincent Georgie, WIFF
