Four for Four at the Podium!

Release Date: Friday, November 18, 2016

The Art Gallery of Windsor is pleased to announce that it brings home yet another record of four new awards from last night’s 39th annual ceremony of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries. This event marks the fourth consecutive year that the AGW has garnered peer awards from this association. Once again, it is a gallery first in history to have back-to-back years of recognition.

For our 2015 programming, the AGW brings home Volunteer of the Year, Monographic Exhibition of the Year (over $20,000), Art Writing and Art Publication in the book category. Congratulations are extended to Molly Briggs who, on the occasion of her 50th year of service to the AGW, has been honored with the volunteer award. Congratulations are extended to artist-curator and writer, Bonnie Devine for her short essay in the Art Writing category, “Crossing the Shatter Zone” published in Border Cultures 2015. Congratulations are also extended to artist Wafaa Bilal and AGW
curator Srimoyee Mitra for their success in the exhibition Wafaa Bilal 168:01. Final congratulations are to curator Srimoyee Mitra for her vision in realizing Border Cultures (co-published with Black Dog Publishing, London, UK) which has garnered the Art Publication Award in the book category.

These awards are important acknowledgements not only of the Gallery’s cutting-edge contemporary art program, and the wonderful artists and curators who have worked so diligently to bring us these accolades but also the excellence of our volunteers and staff team and the professional standards they uphold every day to yield these remarkable results.

The AGW recognizes the support of its funding and granting agencies, including the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Department of Canadian Heritage, as well as all of its members, donors, sponsors and partners
for their contributions and faith in our work and contributions to the visual arts in Canada. We also recognize the support of the City of Windsor for their ongoing endorsements through our lease agreement. It is such generosity that
enables the AGW to achieve these important measures of recognition in the visual arts and in the province of Ontario.
