Final Week: 1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Group

After a summer of fabulous visitor response to the award-winning exhibition and accompanying book, the Art Gallery of Windsorís1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Groupis in its final week. The last day isSunday, October 2, and the Gallery has planned a number of exciting events to celebrate the cultural impact of theBeaver Hall Groupon Windsor and on Canada as a whole.

FromFriday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2, admission to the Art Gallery of Windsor will be free as part of the province-wide initiative,Culture Days. Culture Daysaims to raise awareness and accessibility for arts and culture in Canadian communities. This event presents itself as the perfect opportunity to enjoy the final days of theBeaver Hall Groupexhibition, so donít miss out! Donations are gratefully received in lieu of admissions.

The Beaver Hall Groupísera was strongly influenced by the music, dance, theatre and arts in Montrealís modern urban landscape. Inspired by this particular cultural moment, the Art Gallery of Windsor is pleased to partner with the University of Windsorís (UWindsor) Jazz Combo to present a concert with complimentary admission into the blockbuster exhibition. Gallery visitors will have the chance to partake in afinal tour of theBeaver Hall GroupexhibitiononSunday, October 2 at 2pm. Before the concert, patrons will have a chance to bear witness to how the bold and bright colours of the artistsí portraits and landscapes reflect the free forms of jazz music.

As a special treat, this tour includes apresentation by the School of Dramatic Arts.Four student performers will re-enact a dramatic scene from the play, Picturesque, that honors the ingenuity of the women artists of the Beaver Hall Group. There will be performances every half hour beginning atnoon until 2pm.

To finish off this fantastic weekend,TheBeaver Hall Groupinspired concert, presented in partnership with the UWindsor Jazz Combo, will take place on Sunday, October 2 at 3pmat the newly renovatedUWindsorSchool of Social Work, located at 167 Ferry Street. Tickets for the Jazz Concert are available for $20 for adults, or $10 for students (with ID) and AGW members. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Gallery or by calling Visitor Services at519-977-0013 ext. 117.

The touring exhibition1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Groupis organized and circulated by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts andfunded in part by the Government of Canada, Department of Canadian Heritage. It is presented in Windsor with the support of Caesarís Windsor and Marsh Canada Limited XL Catlin.
