Dear apprentice,

If you are reading this letter, then congratulations: you possess supernatural abilities! How, you ask? Why, this message has been specially coded to be unreadable to mere mortals, meaning that YOU possess the exact superpowers that I have been looking for.

All right, enough chitchat. Let’s get down to business.

As you know, the world has been uncertain for some time now. Exceedingly so. This is why on March 18th from 7-8pm over Zoom, we at the AGW Academy for Heroic Creatives are inviting you to join our (virtual) team, comprised of the world’s best and brightest superheroes. Working with our partner schools – the Five/Fourteen Institute and the School of YMAP – you will step into your superhero. Using art – the greatest power of all – you will work with the Academy’s lead instructor of superhuman design to hone your powers and abilities, origin stories, strengths, weaknesses, friends, and foes.

We look forward to welcoming you on March 18th, and please refer to the FAQ below for any additional questions you may have.

Take care,

Professor A

FAQ:

Okay, so I’m about to become a superhero…but what if I’m not a visual artist? Can I still join?
Of course! Whether you become a superhero through craft, writing, graphic design, or more, all forms of art are welcome and encouraged.

What materials should I use?
Paper, magazines, newspapers, coloured paper, pencils, markers, paint, scissors, glue stick and/or anything else you would like to use.

How can I join?
The Academy is currently powered by the video-conferencing app Zoom. As such, we suggest that you have:

  • A good internet connection
  • A microphone and camera-enabled (optional) computer, tablet or smartphone, earphones
  • Downloaded the video conferencing app Zoom prior to the event.

Once you have registered using the registration link, you will be sent an email with all the necessary information and details about how to access the event by phone, computer or tablet.

Is this free to attend?
The AGW Academy wants to remain as accessible as possible, so yes, this event is free! However, if you have the capacity to donate so that we can keep providing free programming, or if you'd like to become a member, we would be most grateful!

I am an older apprentice. Can I still join?
We welcome apprentices of all ages here at the AGW Academy!

Every superhero has their own soundtrack. Do I get one?
But of course! You can stream our Step into your Superhero playlist on Spotify before, after, or during March 18th.

I have more questions. Who can I contact?
Certainly! Please contact Professor A’s associate, Abbey Lee Hallett, at ahallett@agw.ca with any questions that arise.
