AGW Members' Preview of "Look Again! Celebrating the AGW Collection"

Thursday, April 2, 2015 | 6 pm – 9 pm

The exhibition Look Again! Celebrating the AGW Collection opens to AGW members following the 5:30 pm Annual General Meeting. Singer-songwriter David Sereda will be performing solo to original scores on the grand piano based on themes in Canadian art. Light appetizers will be served, and a cash bar will be open.

About David Serada:
Sereda is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, composer for theatre and sought after collaborator and teacher. “I’m inspired by visual art and dance as much as I am by music, film and theatre,“ he says, “so I welcome this opportunity to ‘play off’ the artworks in the collection and encourage people to look again and look deeper.”

David Sereda is one of Canada’s most distinctive voices. For over 30 years he has woven elements of folk, gospel, soul, jazz and pop into his compelling songs. His music and evocative voice have been heard coast to coast in concerts, festivals and music theatre.

As a composer for music theatre his work includes TOM inspired by the artist Tom Thomson’s life and art (book by Joan Chandler, Sheatre), Love Jive (with Don Hannah, Tarragon, Dora nomination) and A Desperate Road to Freedom (Sheatre), about a girl and her family on the Underground Railroad. In Spring 2015, sereda tours to Ontario schools with Be Our Ally, which looks at homophobia from a rural/small-town LGBTQ perspective.

Sereda has released three albums including the critically acclaimed CD “The Blue Guide”. In collaboration with author Anne Michaels and musicians David Gray and Colleen Allen, he has produced 40 Stray Dog Salons, “mongrel mixes of music, poetry and theatre”. Originally from Edmonton, Alberta he now lives in St. Catharines and Annan, ON.

“David Sereda’s range as a singer-songwriter is breathtaking.”
