SESSION 23: Leaves on a Stream - Mental Clarity by Letting Go

In this session, plan to gain relief by exploring a mindfulness tool that helps you release thoughts that cause you to suffer. Ainslee will lead you through a visualization of “Leaves on a Stream”, an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach.

Many of us spend a lot of our time stressing and worrying about past memories, future unknowns, and the disarray of all that is going on right now. This process will help us tune into the present moment and strengthen our awareness as we begin to create new patterns that support our wellbeing.

We will be creating artwork using clay (or whatever art material you are drawn to) as a visual touchstone as we continue to practice beyond the session, setting aside our racing thoughts, and creating space for our present moment awareness.

Suggested Materials:

  • Clay
  • Leaves (collected from outdoors)
  • Whatever art materials you feel drawn to!

Art-making Process:

  1. Create a leaf sculpture as a visual reminder, to set our thoughts aside and enter into the present moment.
  2. Create a painting, that exemplifies placing our thoughts onto paper, and allowing the water to let thoughts flow (repeat). The emphasis is on process.
  3. See if this process helps you enter into a state of flow and peace of mind.
