SESSION 24: Channel Your Inner Creator!

Sophie Hinch Taking Care 25

Ainslee Winter will lead us through a session that encourages our inner creator to take charge! We often block ourselves from exploring new possibilities when we use labels to describe ourselves and others. For example, thinking you have to be an “artist” to participate in art programming. However, it is true that everyone can create! Whether you are a seasoned artist trained extensively for years, or if you feel brand new to art making, you are a creator!! There is a creative force within all of us!

Explore how art making can be an opportunity to support your inner child. We will look at art materials with a beginners mindset and show our inner critic it is ok to be imperfect! See how this approach can be applied in other areas of your life. Join us for a fun filled session!

Suggested Materials:

  • Paper
  • Oil Pastels, Crayons, Etc.
  • Paint, Watercolours
  • Whatever art materials catch your eye!

Art-Making Process

  1. Create “Imperfect Art”
  2. Use any art-making materials
  3. If you are feeling stuck, try following one of these prompts:
    • Use your non-dominant hand
    • What would your 3 year old self do?
    • Focus on the process rather than the final product.
    • Close your eyes!
  4. Try to make your art as imperfect or ugly as possible.
  5. Notice: Did your inner critic creep up during the process?

    • Did you have fun creating ugly art? How did you find the process?

    • We need to show the inner critic that it is ok to be imperfect.. And that it is actually fun!
